Oncology Management Programme for Cancer Patients

We understand that receiving a cancer diagnosis can be a difficult and emotional experience. Our Oncology Management Programme offers members or their dependants diagnosed with cancer the information, education, and support they need to manage their condition. With the incredible advancements in treatment currently available, cancer can be beaten.

By registering on the Oncology Programme, patients will be able to access their oncology benefits and contact the programme directly for advice, support, and education relating to their cancer treatment.

The Oncology Programme is supported and guided by international and local best-practice, evidence-based guidelines.

If you are diagnosed with cancer, your oncologist should submit a proposed care plan for pre-authorisation before treatment can begin. This care plan should include the date of diagnosis, ICD-10 code, the type of cancer treatment being planned (such as chemotherapy or radiation), any previous history of treatment or surgery, as well as the approximate costs.

How to join the Oncology Management Programme

  • It is important that the treating doctor contacts the programme as soon as a patient is diagnosed with cancer to register them on the programme.
  • The doctor will develop a proposed care plan, which should be submitted to the programme before treatment begins.
  • The care plan will then be reviewed by the Oncology Programme medical professionals, after which patient-specific treatment can commence.
  • A detailed authorisation letter will be sent to both the doctor and the member, outlining the treatment that is funded.
  • Should treatment be required beyond the approved plan, further authorisation must be obtained.

What is included in the Oncology Benefit Management

  • Chemotherapy.
  • Radiotherapy.
  • Oncology-related pathology and radiology.
  • Medicines associated with the cancer (e.g. anti-nausea and pain relief medication).
  • Consultations with the treating oncologist.
